The Myth of Hard Aspects
You may have been reading hard aspects the wrong way
Hard aspects are not the obstacles to your becoming. They are the mechanism of it.
I just presented my research at UAC for the first time last weekend. Family Patterns and Collective Timing.
A man told us at the end that hard aspects are built on competitive dynamics in family systems, and that I should show the remedies.
He was not wrong about this astrology. He was just very far from mine.
I was surprised. Because it is very far from the astrology I practice, and because I was presenting collective systems of charts being impacted by events, not healing family systems. Although honestly, that would be an amazing other talk.
WHAT IS MY ASTROLOGY
It got me thinking about the kind of astrology I actually practice. Evolutionary and predictive, yes. But how?
I am walking the axis between Pisces South Node and Virgo North Node with Saturn on it.
Pisces got me born as a mystic. I never needed convincing that the universe has its own coherence, that the soul moves across lifetimes, that there is a design way bigger than us working through all of us. Trusting the journey of the soul across lifetimes came free.
Virgo is the work of proving it. Degree by degree. Date by date. Years of logging real events in a spreadsheet until the pattern shows itself. Until I see what works and what does not, testing everything I learned, from whoever I learned it from.
Precision in service of the big picture. That is the whole method.
Saturn on that node means it comes tested. Practical, efficient, real and precise. I would never tell anyone they have a nodal return of one year, or a Saturn return of two years. Transits are extremely precise in duration, with precise days of high impact, and it feels actually way better to know this than to think you have a whole year of Saturn transiting on you.
So yes, my research and my brain are focused on hard aspects. The 90 degree modulus. When you are following one event across a whole family of charts, the 90 degree structure is what carries it, and that is why the collective work is built the way it is.
WHAT I ACTUALLY USE
I work with hard aspects all the time. Squares. Oppositions. Conjunctions.
I do use trines and quincunxes as well, just not as my main focus. And I do not look at sextiles. Yes, I said it. Even though I deeply respect the ones who do.
The above already keeps me really busy.
Beyond all the astrology traditions I learned from, I kept working with the techniques that I see working each time.
THE WORD ITSELF
In English, like in French, hard means two things. Difficult. And solid.
Solid as in not soft. Not weak. Not optional.
We have been taught the first one. I want you to try reading them as solid instead. That is much closer to how I read hard aspects now.
Not bad. Solid. Impactful. Unskippable.
And I always try to keep my mind as neutral as possible about them.
This is one of the biggest lessons astrology brought into my life.
THE MOTOR
Hard aspects are the conversations in the chart the Universe uses to move you.
My own chart is built almost entirely on T-squares. I would not tell you my life has been a picnic. But I am still here, still going, and because of the hard aspects, not despite them.
And I certainly did not get to speak at UAC thanks to my trines.
The solid parts of a chart are the motor. They make the plot move. They create events. They create pressure. They create turning points. They demand participation. They bring growth and movement.
WHAT CHANGES WHEN YOU REFRAME
When you reframe hard aspects as solid aspects, the entire chart starts speaking differently.
Natal astrology changes. Synastry changes. Predictive astrology changes. Family astrology changes.
When I see hard aspects between two people's charts, I see cement. The shakes will come, transits will hit those points, triggers will surface. But that is also what keeps people together. What you go through and survive together is what makes you solid.
Paul Westran, in his incredible research on progressed synastry, measures the length of a relationship by the orbs of the aspects between the natal and progressed charts in a relationship. What matters is that there are aspects, and tight ones, not what kind of aspect is there. And when the orb separates and no new aspect is created, that is usually when relationships fade.
I see it the same way in families. You need to go through life growth events together. That is what family is about too.
THE SKIPPED STEP
In evolutionary astrology, a square to the nodes is a skipped step. Something misused where we tripped in a previous incarnation, asking to be lived in a higher expression now.
Something the soul is asked not to bypass in this lifetime. The necessary step to move between the nodes.
Hard aspects are what make the story move. They are not the obstacles to your becoming, they are the mechanism of it.
THE CHALLENGE
So here is my challenge.
Stop reading hard as bad. Read hard as solid.
Then go back to your natal chart, your relationships, your family patterns, your transits, and see what changes.
Something will shift. And it is empowering.
And of course we all love a beautiful trine. Especially in the middle of a rough transit. But I do not think the trine is what holds the plot of your life.
You have real things to build and learn. Unskippable things that want to move your plot forward. And there is timing on it.
I would not waste your time or mine digging the sextiles. Even if I completely respect and appreciate the people who want to.
I mostly focus on hard aspects. Just not the usual way.
THE DOORS
Your hard aspects are building something right now. There is timing on it. Reading that is what I do best.
The Architecture of Power and Timing. Your charts, your dates, the whole system read together.
The class on how I actually do predictive astrology, the guarded secret of the graphic ephemeris included. I am building it now, and the list gets it first.
